Tree Planting 2024

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is now!" This timeless adage encapsulates the essence of environmental stewardship and community involvement, embodying the proactive spirit that was on full display on Saturday, August 24th, 2024. On this remarkable day, the proud members of the Egba Descendants Association along side Billie Cross (Member of Legislative Assembly representing Seine River)  gathered at the picturesque Grandmort Park, nestled at 213 Grandmort Boulevard in the heart of St. Norbert, Winnipeg, Manitoba. United by a shared commitment to their community's welfare, they embarked on a noble mission of ecological significance in collaboration with the City of Winnipeg, an endeavor that would leave a lasting impact for generations to come.

The cooperative effort to plant trees in Grandmort Park symbolized more than just a horticultural activity; it was a tangible manifestation of the association's unwavering dedication to giving back to the community that has played a vital role in shaping their lives. Rooted in the belief that thriving communities are the result of their inhabitants' proactive contributions, this noble initiative served as a testament to their commitment to community service and environmental conservation.

With every tree they planted, the Egba Descendants Association sowed not only seeds but hope and inspiration. These trees, like the bonds between the association's members and the broader community, will continue to grow and flourish, providing shade, beauty, and clean air to all who visit Grandmort Park. Just as the act of planting trees transcends time, so too does the spirit of unity and service that animated the event on that bright August day.

In the end, the words of the ancient proverb ring true, reminding us that while we cannot change the past, we can make a difference today and create a brighter future. The Egba Descendants Association, in partnership with the City of Winnipeg, has embraced this ethos, leaving an enduring mark on their community and inspiring others to follow their lead. It is through such collective efforts that communities are nourished, strengthened, and given the opportunity to thrive, and it is through these actions that the world can become a better place, one tree at a time.
